Delicious Baked Ziti

Baked Ziti is a standard Italian American dish, and can be modified by including a variety of ingredients to taste.  I have often added chopped meatballs and sliced cooked sausage to make this dish even heartier.  This dish is best when served warm with grated parmesan cheese.

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb. Box of Pasta (Ziti, Penne, etc.)

3 Cups Ricotta Cheese, Whole Milk

2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese, Shredded

1 Egg, Beaten

1 Cup Parmesan Cheese, Grated

1 28 oz. Can Crushed Tomatoes

 

DIRECTIONS:

Bring a large pot of well salted water to a boil.  Add pasta and cook according to package directions (approx. 8-10 minutes for al dente pasta).  Drain and place cooked pasta in a bowl with the ricotta.  1 1/2 cups mozzarella, egg, 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, and 2 cups of the crushed tomatoes.  Pour mixture into a well greased baking dish and top with remaining crushed tomatoes.  Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese and 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.  Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for approx. 30 minutes.  Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
