Grappa with Basil, Sugar & Lemons

This recipe couldn’t be simpler......just mix ingredients in a large glass jar and freeze (I replace the grappa with vodka when making it at home).  We enjoyed this grappa in a beautiful Trattoria in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.  The liqueur was served with a ladle into decorative glasses.  How fun!

INGREDIENTS:

8 Cups Grappa (can be replaced with Vodka)

Simple Syrup (3 Cups Sugar and 4 Cups Water)

2 Large Bunches of Fresh Basil

2 Whole Lemons & the Peel from 1 Lemon
 

DIRECTIONS:

To make the simple syrup, in a large pan over medium heat, combine the water and sugar and stir until the sugar has dissolved, approx. 3 minutes. Cool completely and set aside. In a large decorative jar, add the Grappa (or Vodka), the cooled simple syrup, the fresh basil, the whole lemons and the peel from one lemon. (Make sure there’s plenty of space in the jar so the mixture doesn’t freeze and burst the jar). Freeze until ready to serve.
